Public Service Institute

The Public Service Institute, within University OUTREACH ~ College of Continuing Education at The University of Oklahoma, was created in 1996. This think tank of ideas brings together stakeholders, policy makers, and leaders to talk about emerging education, health, economic and social policy issues as they guide their organizations. a group of people photoThese open forums allow leaders to discuss pertinent strategies for approaching what needs to be done to accomplish forward progress on pressing problems.

The demographics of change in society are constant and accelerating rapidly. Many organizations have difficulty responding to this rapid rate of change. The Public Service Institute guides leaders with processes that show them how to effectively manage change and allow their organizations to remain dynamic and supportive to its clients as well as how to handle change and still provide an unchanging bedrock of service.

Few directors of public service organizations have received adequate preparation for facilitating social change. Yet organizationally, they are called upon to serve as chief executive officers of their organizations to make them survive and thrive in an environment of change.

Managing change is so critical for any professional whether in schools, in churches, or in public service and social organizations. And, change at the community level is often the greatest single dynamic affecting the success/failure continuum of the local organization.
